Emily Graslie: Museums, the care and feeding of online communities, and making a name for yourself
Mark your calendars! In July we’re teaming up with our friends at Museumhive to host a Google Hangout with museum educator/video blogger Emily Graslie. Emily is Chief Curiosity Correspondent at the Field Museum, and produces and stars in her own educational YouTube channel The Brain Scoop, listed on the New Media Rockstars top 100 Channels. She is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins Museum Studies program.
Emily will share her experience of working in museums small and large, and the perils and promise of building a distinct personal brand online. There will be an extended opportunity for you to ask her about social media outreach, being a visible woman online, or what’s like speaking to 60,000 people at a March for Science.
If you’ve been thinking of attending a Museumhive, this is the chance — the last Museumhive of the series funded by IMLS. Bring some friends, and hope to see you there!
6pm – 7pm: social hour with cash bar and music with co-host New England Museum Association
7pm – 8pm: Google Hangout with Emily Graslie, with Q&A from the hive
